Biography

James “Jim” Brown has over 30 years teaching experience at the middle school level and has carved out a niche as a STEM teacher and a certified energy manager, specializing in problem-based learning, energy management, and auditing of educational facilities. Jim is a New York State Master Teacher Emeritus and STEM teacher at Sand Creek Middle School in Albany, NY, teaching Computer Aided Design and Manufacturing to seventh grade and Computer Science to eighth grade. Additionally, Jim is the On-Site Energy Manager for his school district. Jim holds a B.S. in industrial distribution from Clarkson University and an M.S. in teaching from SUNY Plattsburgh. He obtained National Board certification in 2000 and re-certified twice. His teaching certifications include Elementary N-6, Math 7-12, Physics 7-12, General Science 7-12, and Business and Distributive Education 7-12. In addition to many certifications and awards in teaching, he holds numerous certifications and awards in Energy Management of educational facilities. Jim has facilitated workshops through graduate level courses in both educational and business settings, and has helped develop and judge national and international STEM competitions and grant programs. Jim has served as curriculum content advisor on the reboot of the Magic School Bus series with Netflix, 9Story, and Scholastic, and was a trainer for the Energizing Student Potential program in Chicago and Washington, D.C. Jim and his wife, Michele, are the proud parents of three young men who have careers in teaching, software engineering, and chemical engineering.
