Biography

Since receiving the PAEMST award, Keri Meador has served as a mentor for future PAEMST awardees and was elected National Science Teaching Association (NSTA) District VIII Director. Keri has been an educator for 21 years. She spent her first year in teaching as a para-educator for various elementary, middle, and high schools. Currently, she is in her 20th year at Central High School, where she teaches Biology, Advanced Placement Biology, and Forensic Science for grades 11 and 12. Keri has a passion for engaging students in thoughtful science research. In the classroom, her students uncover life science ideas through discourse, modeling, and practical applications related to natural phenomena storylines. As the science fair sponsor, she advocates for equity in science competitions. Keri recruits local scientists throughout the year to mentor her classes on investigative design and encourages students to showcase their individual research projects at a variety of competitions. Keri is the teacher lead for her school’s “Discover the World” program; a National Board candidate cohort mentor; and co-director of the Louisville Regional Science and Engineering Fair. She is a member of NSTA and the National Association of Biology Teachers. Keri earned a B.S. in biology and an M.A.T. in secondary science from Spalding University and an M.A. in zoology from Miami University, Ohio. She is a National Board Certificated Teacher.
