The Presidential Award is a mark of an outstanding educator. My Mother is a presidential awardee, and an amazing educator. Receiving this award has always been a professional goal of mine, and I am humbled to meet this benchmark in my career. I hope, that through this award, I am able to show my students that I have never stopped learning and that I am always trying to improve my craft. I am excited to join such an elite network of professionals that will no doubt inspire my next goal. 

Carly Baldwin Ashland, KY | 7-12, Science, 2015

Carly Baldwin has been an educator for eight years, teaching science at Boyd County High School for the past two years. Carly has taught Introduction to Physics and Biology, and currently teaches 10th grade Chemistry and Advanced Placement Chemistry. Carly’s students explore growth mindsets through #MindsetMondays and GeniusHour (projects that ask students to research, create, and present their passion products), and through games from breakoutedu.com that utilize problem solving and bring the excitement of escape rooms to the classroom. Carly’s professionalism extends to teacher leadership. She serves as a 2015–2017 Kentucky Hope Street Fellow, working to engage policymakers, and is a member of the Classroom Teachers Enacting Positive Solutions team, where she conducted action research on Genius Hour. Carly was published in Kentucky Teacher Magazine describing her teacher leadership journey. She is a member of the Kentucky Department of Education’s Teacher Advisory Council and has led professional learning for the Kentucky State Elevating and Celebrating Teachers and Teaching (ECET2) convocation, and the Kentucky Education Association’s Let’s Talk conferences. Carly earned a B.A. in biology from Murray State University and a M.Ed. from the University of Tennessee at Martin. She is a National Board Certified High School Teacher and is certified in chemistry and biology.
