The Presidential Award recognizes that students can achieve great things when a community works together. I have been fortunate to receive support from my colleagues, as well as professionals from businesses and universities. The Maplewood Richmond Heights School District has been a leader in professional development, technology integration, and sustainability implementation. These initiatives have helped my students be successful. I am happy to work with wonderful people in a career I love.

Kathleen Dwyer Maplewood, MO | 7-12, Science, 2013

Kathleen Dwyer has taught science at Maplewood Richmond Heights High School for the past 15 years. She teaches 11th and 12th grade Chemistry, Advanced Placement Chemistry, and science research.  Students in her classes work collaboratively to discover science concepts.  Her style of instruction keeps students actively engaged and fosters a love of science. She sponsors teams that regularly win awards at science fairs, including the Missouri State Science Debate, and the Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering competitions. She also leads an annual symposium in which students present their research projects. Kathleen shares her expertise with other educators, training other teachers to use Process Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning. She has led teacher workshops across the United States, as well as in India and Poland. Kathleen is a National Board Certified Teacher with B.S. in biological sciences from the University of Illinois at Chicago, a M.S. in secondary science education from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, a M.S. in zoology from Miami University, and a Global Awareness and Civic Education Graduate Certificate from Maryville University.
