I am honored and humbled to receive this prestigious award. I am fortunate to have worked with so many amazing teachers, administrators, students, and families who have inspired me to grow professionally. This award validates all the time that I have invested into the profession, and all the risks that I have taken to create an environment for higher-level thinking and learning. I am inspired to continue this journey of lifelong learning, so I can give back to my students who trust in me daily.

Kristy Regan Alsip, IL | K-6, Mathematics, 2018

Kristy Regan has worked as a sixth-grade teacher for the past seven years at Hazelgreen Elementary School. Prior to teaching sixth grade, she was a Special Education Teacher in the district and has been teaching for 14 years. Kristy currently serves on the mathematics leadership team for the district and has facilitated professional development for new teachers in the district and surrounding areas. Kristy is also a member of the building leadership team, the positive behavior committee, the mentoring program, the technology committee, the Lego STEM program, and facilitates the service, maker space, and crypto clubs. Kristy creates an environment that is student-centered and inquiry-based. Kristy makes time to evaluate the outcomes of lessons and the impact of her instructional practices on student engagement and student learning. She facilitates the learning, so students are participating in the problem solving as well as the discussions. Kristy received her B.A. from North Central College. She received her Learning Behavior Specialist 1 from the University of Phoenix as well as her M.A. in curriculum and instruction with an emphasis in Common Core State Standards for kindergarten through sixth grade mathematics from the American College of Education. Kristy also completed the Mathematics Specialist Certification Program from the University of Wisconsin-Stout.
