I am very humbled and honored to be chosen for this prestigious award and to be a part of a community of leaders in education that highlights and promotes academic excellence for students through innovative mathematics instruction. The Presidential Award is a distinguished honor, and I am truly grateful to the PAEMST committee for investing their time and energy to identify and recognize a group of educators who share a passion and will to continue to grow professionally.

Terri Politte Lake St. Louis, MO | K-6, Mathematics, 2018

Terri Politte taught fifth and sixth grade mathematics at Boone Trail Elementary and Duello Elementary School for three years. She also taught fourth grade for five years in the Fort Zumwalt School District. She is now serving in her second year as an assistant principal at Boone Trail Elementary in the Wentzville School District. Terri is passionate about providing students with real-world opportunities to experience and find joy in mathematics. As a sixth-grade team leader, Terri was able to lead her team in creating a cross-curricular, project-based learning project to create an awareness of homelessness. She was also able to pilot an entrepreneurship club in the Wentzville School District that teaches students how to develop an idea into a product and sell it at a business fair. She has had the opportunity to travel around the United States to provide professional development for teachers modeling engaging, hands-on lessons while creating an excitement for mathematics. The assistant principal role has allowed her to lead schoolwide implementation of persevering through real-world problem solving, inquiry-based lessons, and taking risks while learning from mistakes and sharing ideas. Terri earned a B.A. in elementary education and a M.E.A from Missouri Baptist University. She is a certified elementary school teacher and is certified in educational administration.
