Melyssa Ferro is a 7th and 8th grade earth, life, and advanced science teacher at Syringa Middle School. Since switching college majors from laboratory science to science education and graduating from college, Melissa has spent the last 16 years providing hands-on and enriching science and engineering experiences to students in the Caldwell School District. Her passion is encouraging young women and minorities to become more involved in the pursuit of STEM careers. Melyssa has focused her STEM education pursuits on teaching seventh grade Life Science and eighth grade Earth Science. She is also the coordinator for the Science and Math Bowl competition team, and the Math and Science Summer Institute at the College of Idaho, as well as leading the Habitat H2O Florida trip and the Expedition Yellowstone experience. She facilitates several teams for the Future City Competition as part of her Advanced Science curriculum. Melyssa is the STEM coordinator for Caldwell and is developing a summer curriculum institute to help her secondary staff to transition to the Next Generation Science Standards. She currently serves on the Idaho Science Standards Adoption Executive Committee. Melyssa has a B.S. in biology and secondary education from Boise State University and a M.S. in middle level education from Walden University.
