Lauren Baucom has taught mathematics for eight years. For the past three years, she has taught at Forest Hills High School, and previously taught in Raleigh, NC at Enloe High School. As the Instructional Support Coordinator at Forest Hills, Lauren mentors teachers in her school and teaches mathematics and Advanced Placement Calculus. She enjoys leading fellow educators in rigorous professional development through the Meredith College Mathematics Summer Institute, and the North Carolina Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCCTM).
Lauren fell in love with teaching when she watched her students uncover a passion for mathematics by engaging in real-world problems. She immensely enjoys coaching her students in creating a growth mindset and helping them understand that each of them have a mathematician within. As her students find success in mathematics, Lauren helps them recognize how they will, in turn, impact the world.
Lauren was named a Wake County First-Year Teacher of the Year Finalist in 2008, and one of NCCTM’s Outstanding Secondary Mathematics Teachers. In 2012, Lauren was named Wake County's Teacher of the Year and currently serves as Forest Hills Teacher of the Year.
Lauren earned a B.S. in mathematics and a B.A. in Spanish from the University of North Carolina and a M.Ed. in mathematics from Wake Forest University. She is a National Board Certified Teacher of high school mathematics.
