It is such an incredible honor to be selected as a Presidential Awardee. I share this award with my colleagues, students, mentors and family, as each of them have shaped who I have become as an educator. Teaching truly is a “team sport,” and I certainly could not have achieved this success without my teammates at Seneca High School. The Presidential Award serves as a reminder to me to continue growing, learning, striving for excellence, and sharing my passion for mathematics education.

Amy Mosser Tabernacle, NJ | 7-12, Mathematics, 2015

Amy Mosser has been teaching mathematics at Seneca High School for 10 years where she also serves as the Mathematics Department Coordinator. She currently teaches Algebra II and Algebra I Support, and has also taught Precalculus for the majority of her tenure. Amy believes in discovery learning, engaging students in productive dialogue, and helping them make connections. She uses technology as a tool to enhance learning and deepen understanding. Amy has worked with a colleague to develop several projects and hands-on activities to help students apply math concepts to real-world situations. They have presented these projects at numerous National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) conferences. Amy is a leader on a district, state, and national level. She has worked on curriculum revisions, led in-services, and served as a mentor teacher. She is on the Board of Trustees for the Association of Mathematics Teachers of New Jersey. Amy has had extensive involvement with NCTM, having served on the Teacher Advisory Group and the Illuminations Advisory Group, and received the Texas Instruments Demana-Waits Award. She is also a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International for Key Women Educators. Amy earned a B.A., magna cum laude, in mathematics and a B.S., magna cum laude, in secondary mathematics education from Duquesne University. She is a certified teacher of mathematics.
