Mary Vaughan has been teaching at Oak Ridge High School for 20 years, where her classroom experience ranges from Algebra I to Precalculus Honors. Currently, Mary teaches Algebra I and Precalculus Honors.
Mary promotes student understanding for mathematics by integrating technology and practical applications as well as engaging students in real-world problem solving activities that encourage collaboration and critical thinking skills. She has created calculator labs, formative assessments, and project-based learning experiences that embrace Common Core Standards. She also serves as a Professional Learning Communities Coach, Response to Instruction and Intervention team member, and a mentor for preservice teachers.
Mary has presented professional development at numerous local, state, and regional conferences and received several awards and grants from the Oak Ridge Public Education Foundation, Xi State Vision Foundation, and Delta Kappa Gamma. She recently was appointed as a Hope Street Group Tennessee Teacher Fellow.
Mary is a National Board Certified Teacher and earned a B.S. and a M.S. in mathematics education from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and an Ed.D. in education and teacher leadership from Walden University, Minnesota. She is certified in elementary and secondary mathematics.
