Angela Phillips has taught mathematics and science at Chets Creek Elementary School for 16 years. She currently teaches fifth grade mathematics. She previously taught at Andrew Robinson Elementary School.
Angela is a facilitator of critical and creative thinking through student-led discussions. Using a variety of models and representations, she increases rigor while keeping students engaged in learning. Angela nurtures student achievement through differentiated instruction, using formal and informal data to guide experiences.
Angela conducts Math Council Meetings, which are attended by school administrators and teacher leaders, giving her the opportunity to promote common vision for instruction across all grades. Angela facilitates professional development using article studies, instructional rounds, and problem tasks in developing pedagogy. She serves as a consultant for schools locally and across the country, most recently working in Texas and for the National Institute for School Leadership. In Duval County, she is a writer of the district’s math assessments and instructional guides for supporting standards implementation.
Angela has a B.A. in elementary education, a M.A. in education leadership, and certification in early childhood, all from the University of North Florida. She is a National Board Certified Teacher. She has been recognized as her school’s Teacher of the Year (2001).
