I am humbled to be included among these distinguished educators receiving the Presidential Award. This is validation of my dedication and passion for students’ learning and growth. I am even more inspired and motivated to continue to challenge myself to provide high-quality instruction and to facilitate student learning to meet high expectations. I am truly honored.
Theresa Feliu has been an educator for 25 years in the Kingsport City School system. She recently taught fourth grade mathematics and science at John Adams Elementary School. Additionally, she served as a District Mathematics Teacher Leader, where she supported teachers, developed curriculum guides and maps, created common assessments, and conducted professional development activities. Currently, she is an Instructional Design Specialist at Thomas Jefferson Elementary and John F. Kennedy Elementary.
Theresa has a passion for connecting with students through actively engaging them in their exploration of mathematical concepts, resulting in rich mathematical conversations and deep thinking. Students in her class are excited about mathematics and truly believe that they are mathematicians.
Theresa has presented numerous professional development opportunities at the state level as a TNCore Mathematics Coach and at the regional level as a Mathematics Teacher Leader. She has been honored to be appointed to Governor Haslam's Tennessee Standards Review Educator Advisory Team, reviewing and revising the kindergarten through fifth grade Tennessee State Mathematics Standards.
Theresa has a B.S. in elementary education from Illinois State University and a M.Ed. in counseling from East Tennessee State University. She is certified in first through eighth grade elementary education.
