Kristen Mason has taught mathematics for 12 years. She spent six years teaching sixth grade Honors Mathematics at L.W. Ruppel Academy for Advanced Studies. Previously, she taught at Livaudais Middle School. Currently, Kristen serves as the Coordinator of Middle School Math Instruction for Jefferson Parish Public School System. Her impact now reaches thousands of students as she works to improve middle school mathematics instruction across the district and provides support and resources to the district’s mathematics teachers.
In the classroom, Kristen promoted a positive, collaborative learning environment where all students had the opportunity to be successful. Their goal for the year was to become "Math Masters." To help students reach this goal, Kristen used a variety of engaging, effective instructional methods.
Kristen has presented professional development at the local and state level. She has been honored as Teacher of the Year at Ruppel Academy, Livaudais Middle School, and at the district level. She was a Teacher Leader at Ruppel Academy.
Kristen has an A.B. in sociology and political science, with honors in sociology, from Brown University. She has a M.Ed. in educational leadership from Our Lady of Holy Cross College. She is certified in fourth through eighth grade mathematics and is National Board Certified in Early Adolescence/Mathematics.
