It was an absolute honor to be nominated for the Presidential Award. The application process proved to be a humbling and deeply reflective experience. I am now more than ever inspired by my students and their demonstration of leadership, critical thinking, and perseverance. Acceptance of this award acknowledges my dedication to supporting elementary science education at the school, district, and state level.

Elizabeth Grabois has taught at Carson Elementary School in the Denver Public Schools for the past 7 years. She has supported instruction at the district level by facilitating new teacher institutes, working with the Denver Public Schools Instructional Technology Department to design Promethean flip charts for Tracks science units, and field-testing a third grade interdisciplinary unit on fossils. Because of Elizabeth’s enthusiasm for science, her students are engaged and eager to learn each day. Her students regularly use scientific terms properly and explain their thinking using claims, evidence, and reasoning.   Last year, Elizabeth presented at the Colorado Science Conference on using science notebooks to support the Common Core State Standards. Elizabeth has a B.F.A. in dance from the University of Arizona and an M.Ed. from the University of Phoenix. She is certified in elementary education.
