Receiving this award is an honor. It reaffirms my instructional style and hopefully inspires hands-on science teaching. For my students, this award reinforces the belief that by working hard, anything is possible. For my community, it shows them that teachers aren't just heroes in the midst of a storm. We are heroes dedicated to students all year long. Most importantly, it validates that teaching science at the elementary level provides opportunities for students' natural curiosity to be explored.

Carol Huett Moore, OK | K-6, Science, 2012

The official biography below was current at the time of the award.

Annette Huett has been an educator for 23 years and has spent the last 6 years teaching fourth or fifth grade science at Kelley Elementary in the Moore Public School District. Previously, she has taught at Del City Elementary and Epperly Heights Elementary in the Mid-Del School District. Annette's love of helping others learn extends beyond the classroom. She has led several workshops on science safety; teaching mathematics and reading scientifically; and science, technology, engineering, and mathematics to help colleagues in her district and state. Her passion is to help others feel comfortable teaching hands-on science. Annette recently involved her school in the district Science Fair. Because a science fair had not been done for more than 10 years, she held afterschool sessions for students who needed assistance with their projects. Annette has served in a leadership capacity for several years, as Science Chair for her building, on several district- and state-level committees on curriculum and assessment, and as the Elementary Representative on the board of the Oklahoma Science Teachers Association since 2009. Annette was her building Teacher of the Year in 2008 and Oklahoma Science Teachers Association Elementary Science Teacher of the Year in 2009. Annette has a B.S. in education from the University of Oklahoma. She is certified in elementary education.
