Receiving the Presidential Award is an amazing honor. I accept this award as a representative of all the great science teachers in Ohio. I feel fortunate to be in a career that I love, which allows me to be a positive influence on my students. This award recognizes the collaboration and dedication of all the staff and administration I work with, the incredible students who have made teaching such a rewarding adventure, and my family, who support and encourage me.

Tami Fitzgerald has taught science at West Muskingum High School for her entire 28-year career. Tami primarily teaches Physics and Advanced Placement (AP) Physics, encouraging her students to develop a love for science. She focuses on how to reach all students in her classroom and how to elevate them to the most rigorous standards they can achieve. Tami has been a leader in developing a strong AP program throughout the school. Tami strives to provide diverse scientific experiences. She coaches students in Tests of Engineering Aptitude, Mathematics, and Science (TEAMS), once placing first in the nation. Tami has also led students to the rain forests of Costa Rica, to Forfar Field Station in the Bahamas, and through the Exuma Islands by sailboat to bring science to life. As a teacher leader, Tami serves as the district coordinator for the Resident Educator program, oversees the school's professional development team, and has worked to develop the science curriculum in the region. She influences broader education while teaching college courses in science methods, classroom practices, and the effective use of technology. Tami has a B.S. in chemistry and an M.A. in education from Muskingum University. She is licensed in chemistry and integrated science and is National Board Certified in science.
