The Presidential Award inspires me to continue to grow as an educator. To be recognized alongside these outstanding educators is a tremendous honor and validates the time and energy we pour into our work. This award celebrates what I love most: challenging others to be their best selves. Receiving this award is a tribute to the family, friends, mentors, and colleagues who have supported and encouraged me. I am excited to expand my educator network and to share my passion for teaching.

Holly Miller Fishers, IN | K-6, Mathematics, 2018

Holly Miller, a teacher for nine years, has taught sixth grade integrated STEM at Riverside Intermediate School for the last three years. Prior to Riverside Intermediate, she taught fourth grade high ability for six years at Sand Creek Elementary School. Holly has brought maker space, outdoor learning, and robotics initiatives to her school. Holly actively pursues professional development that will strengthen her teaching practice. She is currently a National Education Association Global Fellow, a National STEM Scholar, and an Armstrong Teacher Educator at Indiana University. Holly has presented at the school, state, and national levels on how teachers can develop STEM curriculum that encourages mathematical discourse and deep critical thinking skills. Holly's ultimate goal for her students is to have them engaged in authentic learning experiences that meaningfully integrate the STEM disciplines. She wants all students to believe that they are good at mathematics and can, therefore, consider STEM careers as a viable path. Holly earned a B.S. in psychological science from Ball State University, a M.S.W. from Boston University, a master’s in teaching from Marian University, and is currently a third-year Ph.D. student at Texas Tech University's Global Pragmatic Research in STEM Education program. She is certified in STEM and high ability.
