Mark Haskins Lander, WY | 7-12, Science, 2009

Mark Haskins has been an educator in the State of Wyoming for more than 20 years, teaching high school science at Lander Valley High School. Mark's teaching goes beyond his high school classroom. His advanced chemistry courses are linked to Central Wyoming College, allowing students to receive college credit. A former student of Mark's founded Precision Analysis in Fremont County, an analytical laboratory specializing in the analysis of raw materials essential to the Wyoming economy. The company evaluates water and air quality, helping to maintain the environmental standard within the State. This association has been extremely valuable to Mark and his students. Mark works during the summer months on standard operational procedures, and his students work in and visit the laboratory, enabling the real-world application of science. The operation recently won the 2010 Small Business Award for the State of Wyoming. Encana Oil and Gas awarded Mark its Excellence in Science Award and founded an annual scholarship in his name for students majoring in science. Mark was also the recipient of the Vernon C. Bulgrin High School Science Teacher Award presented by the Wyoming branch of the American Chemical Society. Mark has a B.S. in Secondary Science Education and a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Wyoming.
