Receiving the Presidential Award means that I join past recipients who are admired and respected in my profession. I salute all the nominees, each of whom has made incredible contributions to math and science education; their innovative spirit and support of students across our country to create, apply, and share their insight is inspirational. Many of my professors, colleagues, and students encourage me to be a better educator and PAEMST is in recognition of their contribution to my career.

Gloria Gajewicz has been a science educator for more than 23 years and has spent the last 18 years teaching various science courses at Bowling Green High School. Currently, she is teaching 11th-grade Chemistry and 9th-grade Physical Science. Before Bowling Green, Gloria taught at Midview High School and Oberlin High School. Gloria utilizes modeling pedagogy with her students to encourage them to develop scientific models based on authentic engagement to further their understanding of natural phenomenon. In the classroom, students can be seen collecting data, preparing whiteboard sessions, and engaging with in-depth, collaborative conversations to find solutions. Gloria's dedication to science reaches beyond the classroom. Gloria initiated the first robotics team at her school and has hosted many student teachers over the years. Gloria’s leadership among colleagues encompasses teachers nationally through her service as a teacher leader for the American Modeling Teachers Association. She has presented sessions on Modeling Instruction at several conferences and has lead workshops for teachers in Ohio and Texas. Gloria earned a B.S. in science education from Bowling Green State University; a M.S. in environmental biology from Antioch New England Graduate School; and an education specialist degree, also from Bowling Green State University. She is certified in 7-12 science education.
