I believe the two most important days in someone’s life are the day they are born and the day that they realize why. I believe one of my purposes in life is to share my love and enthusiasm of science education with children. Winning this award is confirmation that I have had an impact on children, while yearning and wanting to reach so many more! I share this honor with my family, colleagues, and most importantly, my kids!

The official biography below was current at the time of the award.

Chasity Collier has been an educator for 20 years and has spent the last two years teaching fourth and fifth grade science at Dawes Intermediate School. Previously, she taught science at Hankins Middle School and Florence Howard Elementary School, before working as a science content coach for the Alabama Math, Science, and Technology Initiative. She was recently awarded Alabama’s 2017-2018 Teacher of the Year. Her philosophy is, she says, "Science That's Done, Is Fun!" Chasity strives hard to make the learning so exciting that each evening the students go home and share their learning with their parents at the dinner table. Chasity’s love of science has influenced and motivated students, teachers, and educational leaders all across the state of Alabama. This year, Chasity has started an afterschool club called Teach 2 Learn. This program encourages students to stay after school and learn to become hands-on teachers. Then they go into kindergarten through fifth grade classes and teach the lessons to their peers. Chasity has created and presented professional development sessions for elementary and middle school teachers on how to engage students in science throughout the states of Alabama and Florida. She earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of South Alabama. Chasity is certified to teach kindergarten through sixth grade.
